Jaguar has issued a recall for approximately 200 I-PACE electric vehicles from the model years 2019 to 2023 due to a previously mishandled recall repair. The luxury automaker had previously recalled a larger number of I-PACE SUVs due to a battery overheating issue, which was addressed with a software update. However, Jaguar has now discovered that at least one of its retailers employed an unauthorized service diagnostic tool, leading to the correct software not being installed on the affected vehicle.

While Jaguar has not disclosed the specific retailer responsible, the company is taking action to inform the impacted owners directly, advising them that their vehicles require the repair to be redone. Jaguar urges those who receive a second recall notice to park and charge their vehicles outdoors, at a distance from any structures, both until the repair is completed and for an additional 30 days thereafter.

The remedy will involve the same software update, this time ensuring the use of the proper service diagnostic tool. It is standard practice for recall repairs to be carried out at no cost to the owner. Manufacturers make concerted efforts to reach every affected owner, although it is not always possible to inform everyone. Vehicle owners can check if their car is subject to any critical safety repairs by visiting the recall center.
